In November of 2009, I was asked by Epson of America to develop a folding stand that would allow their sales reps to demonstrate their Brightlink Projector in a form factor that was compact enough to fit within a carry on suitcase and require a minimal effort to set up.
Over the course of two months, I developed a stand that screwed into the existing bracket mounting holes on the projector and is approximately 2 inches tall and barely 17 inches at it’s widest point. Our mockup was built using machined steel, with solid hinge brackets fabricated on an Objet Eden 3d printer. Once the initial mockup was delivered to Epson, the client asked that I adjust the tolerances on the hinges to make restrict the movement of the legs so that they wouldn’t drop open upon deployment of the stand. Upon revising my dimensions, we were approved to produce an initial run of 25 units which were delivered in the first quarter of 2010.
